I love SNL, I grew up on SNL, and it’s very much a part of the reason I aspire to be in comedy today.
Having said that…. SNL is in some dire straights lately, and I think it speaks volumes about the show that they need to keep bringing back former cast mates.
Yes, Hader will be out in full force promoting Skeleton Twins but what was Tina Fey promoting last year for the season premiere? What made Kristen Wiig show up the year before? Or Amy Poehler the year before that? Yes, we could all say they were returning to their roots and visiting the show that gave them all their start but I think there’s more to it than that.
I appreciate SNL needs time to get things back to the right side of funny after losing so many of their pivotal cast members and writers – but it’s been a long time since SNL made me want to watch SNL without the host being the prime reason.
Here’s hoping this season is a start.
