Single Parents (ABC)

Do you like funny things? Me too. Do you like jokes you can’t see coming a mile away? Me too. Will I watch Single Parents again? Absolutely fucking not.

Soooooo…. I’ll be honest, I think the reason this show is so terrible is because it stars Taran Killam; someone so boring to watch I’m surprised he wasn’t tapped to help host this year’s Emmys. Even in his SNL days I never quite got why people fell over themselves to adore him. He plays the same character no matter what the project – dull white guy who you kinda recognize but can’t be bothered to learn his name.

Single Parents, if you haven’t guessed from the name, has a simple premise – a group of single parents struggle to raise their little brats in beautiful suburbia. Yeah, nothing original here, but that’s not a problem. I love a good family sitcom as we all know, and they don’t have to break the mold in terms of originality in order to be good. They can be formulaic and still be interesting and fun. Single Parents, thought is neither interesting nor fun. It’s mundane. It’s vanilla. It’s just there. And that’s about the best thing I can think to say about this show.

Will it last a whole season? Probably just because it’s on the coveted Wednesday night comedy block. Does it deserve to? No. It didn’t really deserve to get passed the pilot, but again – what the hell do I know?

Single Parents airs Wednesday at 8:30/7:30c on ABC
