This show actually has a cute premise where Bob (Billy Gardell) meets Abishola (Folake Olowofoyeku) while being treated by her in the hospital, and develops a bit of a crush on the Nigerian nurse.
I know, it’s sweet right? It has that sorta 90’s rom-com, get some popcorn and snuggle on the couch feel..
Yeah, it ends at the premise.
Good grief… it pains me to see some talented people wasted on what is essentially a sitcom trope machine so let me say this loud for the people in the back:
Olowofoyeku is endearing as the no nonsense nurse, and while I’m not a massive fan of Gardell it’s safe to say he has the lovable oaf role down to a tee. The stand outs though, are Abishola’s family – particularly her aunt and uncle played by Shola Adewusi and Barry Shabaka Henley. They’re meddling, their vocal, and they are everything you want from a sitcom family and if this show could realign itself to focus more on them – we might be on a better track.
While B❤A isn’t the worst thing Chuck Lorre has leant his name to, I can’t help but think that if given the right show runner this show could not only be hilariously groundbreaking but worthy of a must see title.
Right now, it’s, at best, just another CBS sitcom and the least worst Lorre show.
My prediction: It’s Chuck, he automatically gets a full season guarantee right? Either way, it’s got a pretty decent lead and should survive the season.
BOB❤ABISHOLA airs Mondays at 8:30pm on CBS
