Emmys: If I Picked The Comedy Nominations

So it’s that wonderful time of year when studios and networks try and push their best and brightest out into the world and try and nab them some Emmy Noms…. Now, as we all know I have a considerable problem with what is nominated year after year – so in light of this I’m giving you all my dream nominations in comedy.

Outstanding Comedy Series:

    • The Goldbergs
    • The Middle
    • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
    • Black-ish
    • Superstore
    • Difficult People

Oh yeah, I went full out comedy and with the exception of Kimmy and Difficult People – full out network television. While many may argue network is dying, I say bullshit. Despite the baggage people have bestowed upon network television, it still remains one of the best places for comedy shows and many of my picks have never been nominated before despite being consistently funny in their entire run. So get your heads out of your streaming/cable asses and take notice of what’s right in front of you. ** Note I would love to have included The Carmichael Show here but alas, it was not submitted. (Fuck you NBC!)

Actress In A Comedy Series:

    • Wendi McLendon-Covey, The Goldbergs
    • Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
    • Tracee Ellis Ross, Black-ish
    • Kristen Bell, The Good Place
    • America Ferrara, Superstore
    • Rashida Jones, Angie Tribeca
    • Gillian Jacobs, Love

Yes, I left off the reigning champ Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. Look, I love her. I love Veep, but Good God even she’s getting bored with this now… so seriously, step aside love and let someone else bask in the sunshine.

Actor In A Comedy Series:

    • Jeff Garlin, The Goldbergs
    • Anthony Anderson, Black-ish
    • Bill Hader, Documentary Now!
    • RonReaco Lee, Survivor’s Remorse
    • Danny McBride, Vice Principals

Honorable Mention: Neil Flynn, The Middle. I heart you Mike Heck!

This one was tough since despite the abundance of funny ladies on television, there isn’t that many stand outs for the guys but I think I’ve pulled together a pretty decent crop here. And yeah I know no one will remember Vice Principals on HBO since it aired last year, but I don’t care.

Supporting Actress in A Comedy Series:

    • Lauren Ash, Superstore
    • Carol Kane, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
    • Eden Sher, The Middle
    • Jenifer Lewis, Black-ish
    • Cecily Strong, Saturday Night Live

Yes, I know Cecily hasn’t really done much of note this season – but I feel she should be acknowledged just for being one of the few reasons to actually watch SNL. Oh, and Eden Sher should have been nominated years ago but DEFINITELY for her LaLaLand style song from The Final Final episode.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:

    • Troy Gentile, The Goldbergs
    • Charlie McDermott, The Middle
    • Titus Burgess, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
    • Dean Cole, Angie Tribeca
    • Walter Goggins, Vice Principals

These are all actors, with the exception of Goggins who’s show is just in season one, who should have been nominated before and yet the only one that has is Titus. How the fuck does that work?

So there you have, The Emmy nominations done my way. I’d like to think things will be different this year, but let’s face facts it’ll be another case of me being pissed off, and yelling at the television.
