I Just Rediscovered Beverly Hills, 90210

So this morning I discovered that Beverly Hills, 90210 is on CBS Drama here in the UK. I was a bit skeptical to click on the channel, since I thought it would be the reboot version. It wasn’t. It was the classic 1990’s version. The who’s cuter? Dylan or Brandon version.

I’m in heaven.

I wasn’t very old when this show debuted on FOX over twenty years ago, but I do remember the hoopla around it. I remember being staunchly Brandon, I remember the oh-so grownup story lines (they said sex- tee hee), and I remember the awesome fashion.

Having watched several episodes (seriously, it’s like a marathon going on), I’ve discovered the only thing that stands up today is that Brandon is, indeed, adorable. The rest is just a disjointed part of my nine year old memory. The oh-so grown up story lines are TERRIBLE, the writing is cheesy, and dear Lord I wanted to dress like these people?? Why?

My boyfriend, who’s never seen the show before, summed it up perfectly “..so this is basically a more serious Saved By The Bell?”. Yup, nailed it in one.

The fact that I thought this show was the height of cool, and great drama worries me a little bit. I was clearly a very deluded nine year old – or maybe I just didn’t know any better. I wasn’t the only one though, this show was a phenomenon. Either way though, I think it’s safe to say that some things are just best left in the past.

Do I regret re-finding 90210? Absolutely not! I’ve really enjoyed the walk down memory lane, even if the lane is littered with beer cans, acid wash, and Shannen Doherty’s career.
