Selfie (ABC Tuesdays 8pm)

I must admit I was EXTREMELY skeptical when it was announced in May that this show had been greenlit and picked up, and after watching the pilot I know I was spot on in being so.

The show centers around Eliza Dooley (get it? It’s a take on My Fair Lady), who is your typical socialite-esque, social media star. After after having the flight from hell Eliza realizes she has no actual friends (aww) and enlists the help of her company’s marketing guru to help rebrand her as a self aware, caring human being, and OBVIOUSLY comedic chaos ensues.

In lieu of a review I’m just going to write an open letter to ABC Cheif, Paul Lee.

Dear Paul,

REALLY!??? You thought this was a good idea? The title alone should have told you otherwise. If someone walked into my office with a pitch about a show called Selfie my immediate reaction would be “GET THE FUCK OUT”. And I wouldn’t just mean my office, I’d mean the state, the industry, and Earth.

Internet slang is annoying on the internet, but when injected into a script it makes me want to bang my head against every wall in my house and rethink my ambitions in life. Please make it stop. PLEASE.

Admit it though, this was a panic buy wasn’t it? You got to the checkout on Pilot Season Day and realized you were one show short so you just grabbed for the first thing in front of the till. I’ve been there man. TOTALLY been there. The amount of boxes of overpriced Tic Tacs I have just because I didn’t want to look like a cheapskate or weirdo buying a pack of tampons and some bread. Ugh, it’s the worst.

But no matter your logic, I like you Paul, so I’m just going to conclude with – make better choices, and please make sure you’re not drunk whilst making these choices.

My Prediction: This show will be gone my November sweeps – which makes things pretty awkward since it’s not actually debuting on the network until September 30th
