Tony Vinciquerra – Hire Me

Dear  Tony Vinciquerra,

You don’t know me, so allow me to briefly introduce myself – I’m Ashley and I’m a TV nerd. I live and breathe for the television industry, and I think I can help you with your recently vacated position of Sony Pictures Television President.

Now before you ask, no I have no professional executive experience but you know what I do have? Professional FAN experience. Okay, that might not be a real thing but just hear me out. I LOVE television, like REALLY REALLY LOVE television and I want to write it, produce it, exec it – and just be apart of it. All of it.

So I know what you’re thinking at this point: 1) why is this idiot writing to me why have I read this far and 2) why would I hire someone with no experience and that no one has heard of? Well let me answer that for you. Firstly, you kept reading because you’ve probably never had a job application via blog and kind of want to hear what I have to say. And secondly, here’s why you should hire me…..

I’m a creative.

I’m a writer, an improviser, a film maker – and I’m a kick ass Lego builder. Wait, that last point is probably irrelevant right now. Either way, I get the creative process and I know what it takes to make great shows – a great idea combined with a great group of people. Sony TV already has a large pool of talent, and it can only get bigger if you have an executive that is not only excited to make new and amazing shows but one who wants to help get those amazing shows made!

I’m a fangirl.

I know what fans want, and that’s just to fan out without limits. Trust me when I say a fan with social media will either make you or break you, so why not allow them to be more involved? At a time when so many studios clash with fans over different things Sony could be the one to fully embrace them – and we’d love that. Fans are one of the quickest, easiest and cheapest ways to spread the word on a great show. If you’re lucky to get a fandom to pop up for one of your shows consider yourself golden. After all fans tell other fans, which means higher ratings, which means more money from advertisers.  Boom! Oh, and I also have great ideas to end this piracy debacle once and for all!

Money.

Whoever you’re looking at to fill this position isn’t going to come cheap are they? Well think about it, I would. I’d work for a lot less than the others and I’d do the same job. Whoever you hire may not do as well as you expect or want, and then you’ve wasted potentially millions but not with me! Even if I don’t do as well as expected you’ve only lost a fraction of the money you would have lost with someone else. And given the fact that I’m only asking for a year long try out – you could get rid of me quicker than a top name should things go south.

I’m Up For A Challenge.

The television world is changing. Networks, as we all know, are pushing more towards ownership of shows than ever before and that puts Sony at a slight disadvantage when making deals. Zack and Jamie fought hard to get great deals for shows during their tenure and I would be no different. SPT makes some of the top shows in television right now, so why shouldn’t we get the best deals for our writers, casts, crews and studio?  And while it may get harder and harder each season I’m willing to fight the good fight, and I would expect nothing more for doing so than Taco Tuesday at the office.

Passion.

I’ve written a blog post trying to get you to hire me, posted it to social media and begged people to get it to you! Come on that says passion! Not to mention my entire blog is ABOUT television.  I’ve been reading the industry trades since I was in elementary school and I keep spreadsheets and notebooks of ratings, ideas and schedules. I do this not because I have to but because I want to. I love this industry and not because it might make me rich or might make me famous because – trust me – I have no desire to be famous AT ALL and the only people that would benefit from me being rich is the aforementioned Lego Company. I love it because it’s equal parts creatively fulfilling and what-could-happen-next exciting. Also, I don’t know how to do anything else. I can’t imagine a day going by when television, or comedy or just being generally creative isn’t a part of my life. I’d go insane. That unbridled passion is what the TV world needs right now.

So there you have it, some of the top reasons you should give me this chance. I have plenty more but I’d rather discuss them in person.

All I can say now is I hope you do take this offer seriously because I mean it. Every single word of it. So get a coffee, and have a think about it then have your people contact my people… or me – I am my own people. I like to keep it low key like that, but what I’m getting at is – let’s talk.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Ashley
