… and if you aren’t, WHY NOT?
For those not aware, Inside Amy Schumer is a sketch comedy show made for Comedy Central that stars, yes – you guessed it, Amy Schumer. She writes, stars, and performs portions of stand up on the show, and every single minute of it is pure bliss.
I’ll be honest, a year ago, I had never really heard of Amy – I don’t regularly follow the stand up scene because it varies so much, and unless you live a big comedy city such as New York or LA you have very little chance of seeing the up and coming talent. I knew she had placed 4th on America’s Top Comic, and she has some blasting moments at the Roasts of Roseanne, and Charlie Sheen – all of which I never watched.
Anyways, fast forward to several months ago though, when the Emmy contenders were starting to rally support from Academy members, and Amy Schumer’s name kept popping up on almost every “Who should be nominated” list (She didn’t get nominated by the way – which is a massive travesty). Having never seen the show, and being a total comedy/television nerd I had to watch – AND OH MY GOD THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!
Every episode is brought together by Amy’s sassy (yup, I said sassy) stand up, or by her man on the street interviews with the people of Manhattan, and then with various sketches on the subjects in between.
It’s not a ground breaking format by any means, but she CERTAINLY is groundbreaking. Amy is likable, uninhibited, and most importantly – FUCKING HILARIOUS. Nothing is off limits to this girl, and she owns it. From Herpes and gang bangs, to getting that text from the person you’re crushing on, and then panicking on what to reply with – Schumer delivers with every single sketch and line.
I have a very small number of woman in the comedy world I take a great interest in, and she is now safely on that list.
If you haven’t already started watching this show – PLEASE do it! Comedy Central in the US airs this show regularly, with season 3 starting sometime in 2015. UK viewers… yeah, it should be on CC here – but alas I can’t find the exact time. I’ll just say it will be on sometime after a Friends episode.
