Anthony Anderson plays upper middle class business man Andre (Dre) Johnson, who struggles to raise his black children with a sense of cultural identity in a predominantly white neighborhood.
No, wait! I know what you’re thinking- “don’t preach at me television!”. But really, don’t think that! This show doesn’t preach, it makes you laugh. And laugh HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The pilot episode finds Dre seeking a promotion at work, and his eldest son Andre JR, played to perfection by Marcus Scribner, wanting to convert to Judiasm in order to have a Bar Mitvah party. The result is Dre teaching his son, and his family, a lesson in keeping it real by throwing his son a BRO Mitzvah.
This is only the second new show this season that I will actually request you watch, the other being Gotham, so please! WATCH! black-ish is a genuinely funny, heart warming, AND politically incorrect comedy that I honestly can’t say enough great things about.
The chemistry between everyone on this show is magical, the writing is superb – even for a pilot – and it’s just fall-in-love-instantly fantastic. I’ve not been in love with a comedy at the pilot stage this much since The Goldbergs – and if you saw one of my previous posts, we all know how I feel about that show.
With ABC scheduling black-ish behind Modern Family, and The Goldbergs FINALLY getting their much deserved moved to 8:30 – this night is a force to be reckoned with. From The Middle straight on through, you can enjoy two hours of great laughs, and I’ll go out on a limb here and say that Modern Family is now easily the weakest link in this night, so hopefully that tells you something.
My Prediciton: Solid opening night numbers makes this a sure fire full season show! Welcome the my life Johnson family!
